PARISH HISTORY

Welcome to Sts. Peter & Paul parish family.  We are the oldest Parish Community in the diocese of Cleveland.  Just eight registered families in1827 founded us.  Our first pastor, Fr. Francis Marshall would travel on horseback from St. John’s in Canton.  He was a brother of one of the founding members, Peter Marshall.  Masses were celebrated in the log cabin of the Whitman family until 1836.  Sts. Peter and Paul was the first Catholic Church in all of Wayne County.  Our first church building was constructed and served the parish until 1849 when a newer building was built for our growing community.  Our present building was built in 1877 with the first mass being offered on Christmas day 1878.  While our building has been updated to meet today’s liturgical norms, we have maintained the architectural and artistic integrity of our historical building and Catholic spiritual heritage.  We offer a day school, PSR program, and a host of other educational, social and community activities.  These things help us foster a continual growth and celebration of our faith. We invite all to come and experience the beauty, warmth and spirituality of our parish family.
